4.0 out of 5 stars A Useful toolbox, December 30, 2011

This is one of the few books I purchased spontaneously. So, I was a bit skeptical in the beginning. However, it produced a positive impression on me. Among the other things, it is an excellent collection of the tools that can be rolled out on the spot. They seem trivial, but at the same time are very effective and can pull in a positive outcome. At the same time, in my opinion the book does not cover the inner game enough, as it focuses mainly on the external aspects: presentation, writing, appearance and group dynamics. Overall, I recommend the book.

BN gives an opportunity to visualize networking (the author invites us to create a personal definition for networking, establishing its functions and measurable goals each of us wants to achieve) and delivers practical tips on how to improve. These tips are divided into several blocks (networking events, managing yourself, social network etc.). The key ideas of the book are: nobody can do networking for you; the crucial thing... Read more

1.0 out of 5 stars An awful book., September 2, 2011
This review is from: Brilliant Networking 2e: What The Best Networkers Know, Say and Do (2nd Edition) (Paperback)
I thought I was buying a book that was about `what the best networkers know, do and say'. That was a mistake as what I got was a dirge with an stream of rehashed pop psychology, collated by the author, giving me reasons to set goals, draw mind maps, practice affirmations and imagine I was wearing a shirt with the letters VIP on it.

Why did the author assume that the purchaser of a book on Networking is socially inept, ruderless and and without any confidence? Has he considered that perhaps ordinary people are looking to find out more about `what the best networkers know, do and say' as his books' subtitle states. You certainly do not find out anything of the sort.

Until you get to Chapter 15 there is precious little about the practical tips I was looking for in this huge yawn inducing book. I would dread going to one of Mr D'Souza'a dinner parties, as I'm sure it would be a dull affair.

Don't waste your money!.

I am still shocked by this... Read more
