Product Author Bios

Vishaal B. Bhuyan (Philadelphia, PA), principal and portfolio manager of LifeQuant Capital Management,is a leader in esoteric investing, including longevity and mortality risk markets. He previously consulted with institutional investors on allocating capital to life settlements, reverse mortgages, and synthetic longevity and mortality risk securities. He is author of the pioneering books Life Markets: Trading Mortality and Longevity Risk with Life Settlements and Linked Securities and Reverse Mortgages and Linked Securities: A Complete Guide to Pricing, Risk, and Regulation.

Massive demographic, environmental, economic, and regulatory shifts are generating huge new investment opportunities with an exceptionally high probability of success over the coming years and decades. In The Esoteric Investor, a world-class portfolio manager identifies these investments, and shows how your best profit opportunities may now lie far beyond the boundaries of traditional financial markets.

LifeQuant Capital Management principal Vishaal B. Bhuyan begins by explaining why investors must become far more creative in the way they source opportunity. Next, he identifies immense growth potential in markets ranging from reverse equity transactions to longevity risk–the $24 trillion market you've never heard of. Bhuyan also shows how global events offer sustained profit opportunities in three key markets most investors consistently ignore.

If you're looking for promising investments that everyone else doesn't already know about, The Esoteric Investor offers the unique perspective you've been seeking.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not As Wide Ranging As I Wanted, September 16, 2011

The book lost a star for the boring/dead tone/writing, and another for not going far or wide enough. The description of the book makes it sound as though this offers a whole other perspective, an entire world of long running trends that are underexplored by average investors. This book is definitely not that.

Instead, it's a well presented, clinical view of just a few trends (age, fish, water). I say clinical because it reads like a briefing, complete with numbers and charts. Something the author delivers to clients, but shouldn't be given to readers.

2.0 out of 5 stars Basically Boring, September 9, 2011

I found this book to be basically boring - lots of statistics, that are for the most part, common sense, with a few interesting highlights.

Like we all don't realize that potable water will become more and more valuable as our world population increases. Common sense - I don't need tons of factoids to convince me of that.

The population in the industrialized nations is ageing - again - well known common knowledge - and I don't need tons of demographic data to prove that to me.

I have been to the Tsukji Fish Market in Tokyo - like what else are you going to do when you wake up at 4 AM because of the time zone changes - prices are insane for good tuna - everybody knows that if you have ever been to a decent Sushi place - again, I don't need a bunch of pages to explain that to me.

I felt the author had tons of data and decided to make a book out of it - for me it never really hung together.

Save your money.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not a Step-by-Step Guide, but Well-Rearched in Alternative Investments, July 27, 2011
This review is from: The Esoteric Investor: Alternative Investments for Global Macro Investors (Hardcover)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
I was hoping to find another "get rich quick" book that really was 'get quick rich', but the first few pages flatly warn you that the book offers no alternative investment strategies, no alternative stocks to look for in the future, no explanations of what your portfolio should look like when you're young versus when you're old in investing alternative stocks/investments/businesses, which next alternative investment "bubble" to avoid, etc.

This book is more of a historical book on what the most savvy of all investors look for when they invest. basically the smartest of the smartest of investors don't follow hunches or rely on the opinions of others, but they spend hours upon hours researching topics and following historical data trends in order to seek out a small window of investor opportunity. As a result, this book is more on the "higher end" of what is like to invest, and something most readers will probably overlook in their search for the next "get rich quick" books... Read more
