This book gives you a practical framework that will help you seek out new commercial opportunities and develop new and better ways of doing things. For innovation to be more than a buzzword it has to be deeply integrated into a team's structure--this book presents an integrated approach that will accelerate your move from buzzwords to practical steps to implementation.

"Innovation: Fast Track to Success" is a collection of charts and common wisdom relating to "Innovation" in the workplace. My background is in engineering management and had responsibility for the development of new (innovative) network services for my company, so was interested to review the information and strategies that should have been covered in this book. The six areas of focus in the book are "planning, pipeline, process, platform, people, and performance", which is as it should be, but it lacks real depth and over uses buzzwords. There really isn't anything inaccurate or wrong with the contents, it just lacks anything that sets it above other books in this arena. This repetitively thin book that will not offer much to the experienced manager or team leader, but might be useful to entry level managers. CFH

Wow, when I got around to writing this review, I saw that there are already numerous Amazon Vine voices who had ordered this book and written their reviews. Why so many? Most likely because there is a lot of interest in "innovation", so that we can lead our team to build the next iPhone! But does this book really help you get there?Pros: 1. The author does offer a website for you to go and fill out questionnaires to assess your status (HealthChecks). Registration is free. Assessment tool is easy to use, though I personally prefer number scores instead of color bar / slider. 2. Case stories - interesting reads! Cons: 1. Online templates - these cost money! 2. Too obvious in some places - for example, one of the tips is "learn from mistakes". I thought that was taught when we were adolescents. What is most lacking though in the book is real solutions that a manager can use. For example, pages 47-48 make reference to a business... Read more

This might be a good college or school textbook for people who haven't been in the workplace - for everyone else, most of the information is pretty obvious and it provides a fairly shallow approach to what could have been a fascinating topic. It's decently written but quite generic and when I read tips like "learn from your mistakes", I can't help but roll my eyes. There are some good online resources that come with the book (some of the templates on the site are not free) but there's also an extraordinary amount of duplication from the other Fast Track book on Managing People and Performance.
