Richard A. Dickson (Palm Beach Gardens, Florida), Sr. Market Strategist and market commentator for Lowry Research, has been a technical market analyst for 30+ years. He managed a growth fund with above average results, developed technical models to identify market leadership, and served on the Board of the Market Technicians Association. He is a member of the American Association of Professional Technical Analysts (AAPTA).
Tracy Knudsen, CMT (Jupiter, Florida), VP, Lowry Research, has been a market technician for 15 years. She served as Sr. Market Strategist at Candlecharts.com and as Sr. Technical Analyst at Stone & McCarthy Research Associates. An MTA member, she served on AAPTA’s board.
For generations, technical market analysts have relied on the Wyckoff method for understanding price/volume interactions–a breakthrough technique created by Richard D. Wyckoff, one of the most influential traders in stock market history. More recently, many technical analysts have also applied the Lowry Analysis, an exceptionally powerful approach to understanding the forces of supply and demand that are the starting point for all macro-analysis.
¿
Now, for the first time, two leaders at Lowry Research discuss how to combine these methods. Drawing on more than 45 years of experience as technical analysts, Richard A. Dickson and Tracy Knudsen introduce a uniquely powerful, objective, and quantifiable approach to applying traditional price/volume analysis. By understanding their techniques, investors can gain insights unavailable through other technical methodologies, and uncover subtle indications of emerging trend shifts before other methods can reveal them.

The intent of the authors of this book is aimed at providing a set of indicators that measure different things: the Wyckoff analysis-price/volume activity; the Lowry analysis-Supply and Demand; the A-D Lines-market breadth; and the percentage of stocks above their 150 day moving averages in price which is a measure of breadth momentum. The authors believe we can safely assume that these methods will work because they are reliable, time tested methods for gauging fear and greed, and the forces of Supply and Demand, none of which have changed over the millennium, and aren't likely to change.I like this book for providing a "big picture" look at the market and its trends. It does a good job of showing the charts of secular bear and bull markets and the principles behind market trends and movements. While it does a great job of showing how Wyckoff read and labeled charts it does a poor job of showing how investors and traders could profit from this chart reading. What are the... Read more

If you want to learn how to identify stock market tops and bottoms, then this may be exactly the sort of book you're looking for. It is a text with the sole purpose of showing you a set of techniques for spotting tops and bottoms as they are developing and estimating how far the reversal trend may go.This is, however, very much a stock market oriented study. Some specific techniques included can be applied in other markets, as they are based on charting methods, but since volume and advance/decline information is also used, the unified approach outlined is not universally applicable across markets. Also, these methods are applied to daily time frame charts and higher, so they won't be of much use on a day-to-day basis for short-term traders. As the subtitle indicates, the methods presented are based on those developed by Lyman Lowry and Richard Wyckoff. The latter name is one many technical traders and analysts are likely to know (Law of Supply and Demand, Law... Read more

This review is from: Mastering Market Timing: Using the Works of L.M. Lowry and R.D. Wyckoff to Identify Key Market Turning Points (Kindle Edition)
Two established professional market technicians combine longstanding technical frameworks into a methodology that offers great value for identifying major market tops and bottoms. Richard D. Wyckoff's laws of Supply and Demand, Cause and Effect, and Effort and Result are supplemented with Lyman M. Lowry's Supply and Demand foundation to recognize major tops and bottoms as they form and end - the essential objective of market timing. The historical record provides the supporting data for the authors' creative work. Dickson and Knudsen present several examples that show how well the two methodologies supplement each other. We go through the 1966-69, 1975-76, and 1980-81 market tops as they are formed and the 1972-73, 1975-76, and 2008 tops as they end. We see how the forming and ending phases have unique characteristics. Identifying a major market bottom is crucial in order to catch the beginning of a bull market. The authors show how Wyckoff-Lowry analysis... Read more |
