Product Author Bios

Richard Templar is the author of international bestsellers The Rules of Money,The Rules of Work and The Rules of Management.

There are lots of wrong ways to bring up your kids, but there are lots of right ones, too. There's no list of instructions you have to follow to the letter if you don't want your child to end up a loser. The Rules of Parenting presents the principles to follow which you can adapt to suit you and your children. Beginning with the first rule "Relax" and continuing through 100 rules, this book presents a guide to everything a parent needs to know from toddling, school, boyfriends or girlfriends, through driving lessons and college. The book begins with a section that covers the most important rules, The Rules for Staying Sane. The rest of the sections cover the some of the big questions of parenting, including the Attitude Rules, the Discipline Rules, the Sibling Rules, the School Rules, the Teenage Rules, the Crisis Rules, all the way up to the Grown-up Rules.

nice, easy reading, made me laugh
( reminds me "for dummies" series)
good as a coffee-table book, not stupid, funny in places and quite far from being a tutorial

5.0 out of 5 stars Inspirational / daily reminder, May 7, 2011

This book and others by this author are quick and easy reads. Each page is includes a new rule, which are important reminders of what's important when raising children. I liked the other books in this series the author wrote regarding, money, life and work.. Very similar to the don't sweat the small stuff series. Filled with daily tidbits to keep you on track living a positive fulfilling life. Did not regret this buy.

This book is quite good. Two things that struck me as right-on-the-money were the comments that it's okay to hide from your kids sometimes and that you should not try to be your kids' best friend. The only thing that bothers me about this book is that it often comments, "now since you're a 'rules' parent you know better than...". Other than that it's great. Makes you feel human rather than requiring you to be superhuman.
