Product Author Bios

Michael C. Thomsett (Nashville, TN) is a widely published author with over 70 published books. He is especially known for his options publishing. His books include Options Trading for the Conservative Investor (FT Press) and The Options Trading Body of Knowledge (FT Press), Winning with Options (Amacom Books), Put Option Strategies (FT Press) and the best-selling Getting Started in Options (John Wiley + Sons) which has sold over 250,000 copies and was released in 2009 in its 8th edition.

Traders who use charts to time their moves rely on strong and clear signals. Unfortunately, price levels and traditional technical indicators alone aren't always reliable. There is a solution: candlestick signs, moves, and patterns. When these visual signs of reversal or continuation are integrated with other signals, they provide the strongest possible entry and exit timing: both the signal and the means for confirming it. In this easy-to-use book, renowned trader Michael C. Thomsett demystifies candlesticks and shows active traders exactly how to use them. In Trading with Candlesticks, Thomsett explains how each leading candlestick works, how they appear, and how to interpret them to discover emerging price moves and trend reversals, as well as confirmations of existing trends. Trading with Candlesticks shows dozens of examples of candlestick signs, moves and patterns in action, explaining them not in isolation, but as part of broader, developing price trends on real stock charts. Thomsett also discusses failed signals, and offers guidelines for identifying the likely impending failure or success of each pattern. While no investing approach is 100% foolproof, Thomsett's system for recognizing candlestick signals and confirming them with other technical signs makes technical analysis more accurate than it's ever been before.

4.0 out of 5 stars Well Written With Good Treatment Of Subject, March 13, 2012

Overall I think this is a very good book for those with little knowledge of using candlesticks in technical analysis. It covers all the basics in a understandable way. It probably is not geared for those interested in the most advanced treatment out there however. It is recommended for the beginning to average level investor.

A treasure of information here, along with much practical trading advice. Michael Thomsett has wrote over 70 books on trading and finance including many on options, some of which I have and use. This volume goes into great detail concerning basic candlesticks, continuing on to single and double stick moves, complex patterns, reversals (my favorite area), volatility, swing trading, trends, and the use of technical indicators to use in conjunction with the candles. Throughout the book Thomsett uses handy Key Point boxes to illuminate important concepts and he also includes a very useful glossary.

I do wish that Thomsett delved a bit more into what various candles mean in terms of how the bulls and bears are fighting it out, and which has the upper hand. The author does have a very readable and concise writing style and quickly gets his points across. However, do like me and get four or five books on candlestick trading, and I plan to get more, each writer has unique... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars good!, December 22, 2010
This review is from: Trading with Candlesticks: Visual Tools for Improved Technical Analysis and Timing (Hardcover)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
Trading with Candlesticks is a very well written book that provides an updated analysis which is more accessible to the 21st century reader than what I consider to be the more premier book in the field by Benjamin Graham. This book is much shorter, contains lots more graphics than Graham. I liked it. I believe that it provides some sound information for individuals who wish to trade or who wish to utilize some of these principles in helping them to decide when and how to purchase or sell investments. It contains information not available in the Graham text, such as computer tools for analyses, that weren't originally available. In 2010, one can trade essentially all around the world, making use of new patterns and information from NYC to Hong Kong and back. I do not believe that trading by itself ought to be conducted by the novice but I do believe that if one is trading, this is one of the 5 or so books that ought to have been read and fully understood before venturing into the...
